The Godby Shipping group has taken delivery of NB1183 from Sietas shipyard in Germany. The vessel was ordered in November 1997 and was delivered and christened mv Mistral on the 2nd January 1999.
A sister vessel, NB1184, is expected to be ready for delivery in the middle of February 1999. Both vessels will be time chartered to Oy Transfennica Ab for their liner traffic between Hanko in southern Finland and Lübeck in northern Germany.
The vessels have been designed jointly between Transfennica, Godby Shipping and Sietas. The vessels are optimised for transportation of paper products, containers and trailers. Major factors have been a high service speed, environmental friendliness, efficient cargo handling and good ice going capability. The vessels will be built to Finnish/Swedish ice class IA Super meaning that the use of icebreakers will be minimised. The vessels are designed to fulfil both Finnish and German safety regulations.
The Wärtsilä main engine will be fitted with water injection, which will reduce NOx emissions by 30-50 %. The vessels are equipped with stabilising fins reducing the movement in rough seas, anti-heeling system reducing the movement during loading and discharging and a free fall lifeboat.
The vessels are loaded and discharged via two stern ramps. Fixed ramps connect the main deck with the lower hold and the weather deck. All decks can thus be loaded and discharged simultaneously.
The main data are as follows:
Length Beam Draft |
150,00 m 20,60 m 7,00 m |
Dead-weight Ice class |
7.250 ton IA Super |
The crew will be about twenty per vessel.
